What’s a Met?

The Cubs are in New York this weekend playing the Mets. It reminds me of a funny commercial that reminds me of my Dad.

When I was a kid, WGN broadcast all the Cubs games. One of the commercials they showed every game was a bunch of old Chicago guys sitting at a bar asking themselves “What’s a Met?”

The Farley Kramers got a big kick out of that commercial and it became one of our favorite lines. I still use it all the time.

It doesn’t bother me that people don’t “get” the joke these days. All that matters to me is that Dad and I thought it was a funny commercial. 🙂

A slice of Americana

A co-worker snapped this photo of Maisa and me at the Iowa Cubs game today.

Look at how Maisa attentively watches the action on the field. She has a lot of Dubuque County blood in her.

Living out of a suitcase

Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times has a good story today about Brock Stewart’s 2018 journey — an endless back-and-forth between Los Angeles and Oklahoma City.

It’s a tough life being the “26th man” on a 25-man roster. You’d better enjoy flying and sleeping in hotels. Definitely not the life for me.
