Today our “We Love Basketball” tour brings us to Knapp Center for Drake women vs. Illinois State.
I was presented with a nice honor today at the Register’s annual newsroom awards ceremony: Staff MVP.
A transcript of what was said at the awards ceremony:
James’ value is sometimes hard for the entire newsroom to see, but in reality it’s impossible to ignore.
James keeps so many trains moving. Sports trains. Opinion trains. Iowa Life trains. And then there are the trains he repairs to keep you from looking bad.
On top of his vital role as planning editor, in the past year he was asked to handle many tasks for the Opinion department, as well as handle all print booking for sports. That’s on top of his pivotal role in our evolution as a digital leader.
James is a good teammate and selfless leader who has a great understanding of interpersonal dynamics. It’s a fancy way to say people like working with James.
His personal approach to his work sums up the characteristics that make him a staff MVP: Fast. Efficient. Smart. Friendly. That’s James.
At my blue heaven.
It’s been a bittersweet winter for me. I haven’t come to terms with losing the World Series and probably never will.
College basketball has been a salve for my emotional wound. But the teams I follow have become increasingly irrelevant. The games are becoming harder to watch.
Dodger Blue will arrive soon to cure my winter blues.
