Dodgers sweep Giants with 11-inning victory

This is the summer I’ve always dreamed of. Total dominance by the Dodgers, week after week after week.

No matter how October goes, I’ll never forget how much fun 2017 was.

All-Star Softball Showcase

Maisa had a fun morning Saturday at the All-Star Softball Showcase in Ankeny.

She played two games, met a bunch of new friends and took home a commemorative ring.

Way to go, Beckman

We enjoyed watching Dyersville Beckman win its sixth state baseball championship today.

It was an emotional season for the Blazers, who watched legendary coach Tom Jenk deteriorate from cancer. Jenk was in attendance for the final game and gave a thumbs-up after the last out.

He has coached Beckman for four decades and won more than 1,000 games. One of Dubuque County’s all-time best baseball men.

I’m really happy for my friends in the Beckman community.

Added bonus: Jackson Bennett of Farley was the winning pitcher. I went to school with his mother Angie and uncle Greg.

Very satisfying

Beating the Giants tonight was one of the most satisfying victories of the year, as far as I’m concerned.

The Dodgers have won six in a row and improved to 72-31.

Iowa’s #1 Dodgers fan

I call Uncle Hub once a month or so to talk Dodgers baseball. It’s always the highlight of my day, for sure.

Had a great conversation with him yesterday. Hub and I are enjoying the Dodgers’ amazing run of success over the last five years, particularly this year.

The Ankeny Kramers are looking forward to a good weekend.

  • Tonight we’re going to watch the Dodgers. (Saturday and Sunday, too, probably.)
  • Tomorrow morning Maisa plays in an all-star softball showcase in Ankeny.
  • Tomorrow afternoon we’re going to watch Dyersville Beckman in the state championship game.
  • Tomorrow night we are gonna hang out with some friends.
  • Sunday we’ll probably go to the pool.

I can’t think of anyone better

Is there a more consistent winner in Iowa high school sports than Dyersville Beckman baseball?

To me, that Beckman program is the benchmark for sustained excellence. Heck, even Harlan football has an off year every now and again.

Daydreamin’ about the Dodgers

As the Dodgers keep rolling down the tracks at full speed, I am giddy that I get to attend two of my beloved Bums’ games next month.

California dreaming, indeed.

I’ll remember 2017 as the summer the Dodgers put it all together and became the best baseball team in the world.
