Maisa offers a Yogi-ism

Maisa sounded a little bit like Yogi Berra last week when instructing Grampa that it was time to take her to school. (Jill and I were at a doctor’s appointment)

“Papa, we better get going because the short cut to school takes a little longer,” Maisa said.

Politically correct

Maisa has all kinds of questions about the presidential campaign, what with all of these TV commercials she sees from the candidates each day.

Jill and I have tried our best to answer her queries without backing any particular candidate.

Maisa had been a big Bernie Sanders supporter up until tonight, when she saw a picture of John Kasich in the Register.

Maisa noted that Kasich looks like Papa B., and Kasich’s wife is Karen (just like Gramma). So that was enough to make her change her allegiance.

Road into Dodger Stadium renamed Vin Scully Way

“I am overwhelmed. I was raised in the streets of New York and to have a street named after me in Los Angeles is almost too much to comprehend.

“I am eternally grateful to the Los Angeles City Council and especially Councilman Gil Cedillo.

“A path to Dodger Stadium is a pathway to my heart. For 55 years it has been an honor to walk that road to one of the greatest entertainment centers in the world, a place that has brought so much joy to all of us.

“I thank God for this great honor.”

–Vin Scully

A good morning indeed

Today I enjoyed an early-morning phone conversation with Iowa’s biggest Dodger fan and the world’s best uncle, Hub Kramer.

I can’t think of a better way to start the day. 😀

Yearning for a different kind of Blue

I always feel blue this time of year. It’s the dog days of winter. And we’re not getting enough sunshine, I guess.

It also occurred to me yesterday that I’ll be feeling a lot better about things when there is baseball on my television.

I do OK during the off-season until about January 15. That’s when my baseball-less existence starts getting the best of me.

Monday, April 4: Dodgers at Padres, 6 o’clock

Interesting fact: The Dodgers play 13 of their first 19 games on the road in 2016 — including the first seven games on the schedule.

He died young, but his music lives on

Today was a bummer of a day for the Ankeny Kramers.

So Maisa and I listened to Ritchie Valens’ “Come On, Let’s Go” to lighten the mood.

Valens was born and raised in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley. He found fame with a handful of big rock ‘n roll hits, and he died in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, on Feb. 3, 1959. He was 17 years old.

Maisa also enjoyed “Donna,” another Valens hit single:

The bilingual Valens is best known for “La Bamba.”
