Pitching wins, losses: Who cares?

Seriously, why do we even bother with pitchers’ win-loss records? They are totally irrelevant.

Clayton Kershaw’s ERA is 1.72 yet he has been charged with seven losses.

Great news from the L.A. Times

The Dodgers are expected to announce Friday that Vin Scully, the finest broadcaster in baseball history, will return for a record 65th season in 2014.

Dodgers win again; The Beard makes its debut

wilson

Former Giants pitcher Brian Wilson, pictured, made his Dodgers debut today.

Maisa took one look at the TV screen and made a wretching sound, then said, “Ewwww!!! I hate his beard!!! I wish he would shave it!!! I wish he played for the other team, the Marlins!!!”

Wilson’s beard is now about twice as long and obnoxious as it is in the picture above.

Yep, The Beard is ugly and gross. But if Wilson can get batters out late in ballgames, I guess I’ll learn to live with it.

Dodgers’ magic number drops to 29

My beloved Bums won again tonight, and the D-backs lost.

That means our division lead increased to 8.5 games, and our magic number to win the NL West dropped to 29.

Any combination of Dodger wins and Arizona losses equaling 29 gives us the division championship.

The best kind of victory

Last night’s game just felt like it was going to end with a Dodger loss.

We couldn’t catch a break and we let the Marlins off the hook too many times.

Until the eighth inning, that is. Puig led off with a tiebreaking homer and that was that.

Those games you don’t expect to win, but win anyway, those are the best kind.

I smiled when I saw this quote

“Northeast Iowa: where semi-pro baseball and the Roman Catholic Church are dominant faiths.”
–Wes Smith, Chicago Tribune reporter who wrote about the making of the “Field of Dreams” movie. Smith’s quote was referenced in a recent Dyersville Commercial story.
