The greatest character in television history

25 Nov

I was about 19 years old when I first watched an episode of “Dallas.” I was back at my folks’ house during summer break, just flipping the channels when I stumbled upon the murder trial of Jenna Wade (i.e. Bobby Ewing’s old flame).

“Dallas” sucked me in that day, and never let go. I’ve been a huge fan of the show for more than 15 years now, as all of my friends and co-workers can attest. My best buddy Al started watching the show when we lived together in 2003-04 — and he’s still hooked.

So naturally I was very sad to hear about the passing of Larry Hagman, who played J.R. Ewing — the TV character everyone loved to hate. Hagman was masterful in his portrayal of the lying, cheating, greedy Texas oil tycoon.

Rest in peace, Mr. Hagman. You were one of the real icons in television history.
